A Return to Screenshot Saturday

Return to blog

Oh hello! I've been absent from the game developer ritual of posting screenshots on Saturday for the last few weeks. My excuse is good! I was in the final throes of Miasma Story's development. Any second spent writing a blog post would have seemed like wasted time when success was so close.

But I did it! Miasma Story is finished, tested, and waiting for the right moment to go up for sponsorship. (If you're interested in sponsoring, do send me an email.)

After the big project that Miasma Story was, I decided to work on something much smaller, something I could finish in just two weeks. I started a week ago, so what do I have to show at the 50% mark?

Miasma Story - Private Library Level

A tasty little Tower Defence game! Very colourful and slightly mad, that's the aim. It's not all that revolutionary, though where most TD games force you to place towers in pre-defined places around a path, this gives you the task of creating a maze yourself.

So far, the basic enemy code is down, and I just need to finish the last kind of tower. Hopefully that'll be done today. In addition, right now there is nothing stopping the player from just closing up the maze, causing the enemies A* pathfinding to panic and throw themselves in any old direction. Then I need to do the interface properly, since the stuff in that screenshot is clearly me trying out colours and layout. Bah, lots of work still to do.
